For those of you that are Texans by birth or by choice: eat beef (and some beans), drink Shiner, shoot something, open the door for a lady (or man, NTTAWWT), say, "Howdy," and look up at that distinctive flag of yours and think of all that brave souls through the years that have done their best along the way to make the state what it is. Take a nice deep breath (exceptions to those in the Golden Triangle) and stand tall. There are a whole lot of nice places to live in the world but none of them are Texas.
"How 'bout some more beans, Mr. Taggert!?"

So, this comment is not really on topic with the post. But, I'd like to recommend a book for those of you with theological interests. "The Shack" by William P. Young tells the story of a man whose life challenges have created significant doubt about God. The man receives and accepts an invitation from God for a face to face meeting.
The author was working as janitor when he wrote the book informally as a way to explain his belief in God to his kids. He has no formal religious or writing education.
It does not reflect the views of any particular Christian denomination, but will challenge many ingrained perceptions (the physical form of God is portrayed as a black woman).
It's a pretty quick read, although some of the concepts require some thought to absorb; some still haven't completely sunk in for me.
I promise that reading it won't create any sense of obligation to a particular religious institution. But, as with me, it should cause you to rethink your eschatological world view (sorry to use quirky words; been reading too much lately).
Interesting, glenn. Like God, Sam Houston was a black woman.
I am ashamed to say that in the hustle & bustle of getting ready for work / school this morning, I totally forgot to fly my Texas flag. Didn't remember it till I was almost to the office.
Revoke my citizenship, I deserve it.
