Get how I said, "film" not "movies." See, that's the sign of a guy gone soft. Living around all these leftist, trend sucking dilettantes will do that to you so let me serve as a cautionary tale for you. Meanwhile, here's TCM's list of the fifteen "Most Influential Classic Movies"http://www.tcm.com/dailies.jsp?cid=237829. I haven't seen a lot of these and don't really care to--many of them are noted for their inspiration to subsequent greater film efforts, but it's still interesting reading. I have always wanted to see, "Potemkin" and "Bicycle Thief," though, so they're on my list for this summer's Paramount film series. Come and join me along with all of the other socialists.
TCM left out, "Animal House." No list is perfect.

I'm just over the half-way mark, having seen 8 of them. I can understand why they were chosen, but that doesn't necessarily put them on my own personal "Great Movies" list.
However, since they are movies that are "influential in the arena of film and the culture that produced them", I find it a bit presumptuous that neither "Behind the Green Door" nor "Deep Throat" is not listed. Changed cinema (as well as our "culture")forever, if not necessarily for the better.
I've seen 9 of them. 42nd Street is great as are all musicals that Busby Berkeley was involved in - especially the "Gold Digger" movies, Gold Diggers of 1933, 1935 & 1937 and "Dames" & "Footlight Parade" (with Jimmy Cagney). "It Happened One Night" of course is a classic. Gold Digger movies are just so-so as movies but the singing/dancing parts that Busby choreographed are fabulous.
