Thomas Friedman's House

No, the Times doesn't pay him that much. He made his money the old-fashioned way - he married into one of the wealthiest families in the country. Quite a carbon footprint. I'm sure he buys carbon offsets to assauge his guilt.

Some more from his column today:

With a few notable exceptions, the Republican Party is standing, arms folded and saying “no.” Many of them just want President Obama to fail. Such a waste. Mr. Obama is not a socialist; he’s a centrist. But if he’s forced to depend entirely on his own party to pass legislation, he will be whipsawed by its different factions.

It's truly amazing to read the shit that people will say to try to advance their arguments, isn't it? Friedman has quite possibly lost the will to reason and/or engage.

Self-elevated by his own status with personal wealth and access to the powerful, he has grown to think it exceedingly unnecessary to debate others over his beliefs. Rather, he feels he blesses us with his opinions, espousing them in such a presumptive matter that those who stumble upon them or who might be forced to read them will be disparaged from believing that they are anything short of accepted doctrine--the gospel according to Thomas, if you will.

Madness.
