I saw this mentioned on SnS and it's a good piece on the '64 Cotton Bowl between Texas and Navy: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/story?page=texas1964. Not overly preachy.
I used to subscribe to SI, but became weary of their unrelenting social justice agenda. When I read about a guy playing baseball or badminton, I'm not interested in a subplot concerning the Voting Rights Act of 1964 or whatever. Their writers tend to be the east coast weenie/Boston lout types: a far cry from the Dan Jenkins era, with stories conceived in a dark lounge on the edge of a city with a pack of Winstons and a stout Dewar's on the rocks for company.
