David Epstein of SI suggests that Roethlisberger's boorish behavior is due to concussions:

My question (not answered) is why someone who had a shit load of concussions like Troy Aikmen didn't resort to banging coeds two at a time? Epstein, and the good folks at SI will typically and relentlessly pursue any and all social justice angles in any freaking story that the magazine covers, so you have to take that into account. They can report about guys pitching washers in Cuero and you'll come away convinced they're nothing but racist crackers because an aggressive civil rights agenda is not in the group's charter. Anyway, my own take is that Roethlisberger is a clueless dunce who is a good quarterback. He's not the first.

Tiger, Ben, Jesse James all just thought they were omniscient and omnipotent. They forgot that omnipresence can trump the first two and result in desultory media coverage.
In other words: Troy just never got caught. His discretion was sufficiently successful to spawn many gender preference rumors about him.
