John Wayne died on this date thirty one years ago. By all accounts, a swell guy to run with and no one since has come anywhere near approximating what made him unique. He wasn't a Brando or Dean but was a tremendous actor, nevertheless and combined with his physicality--they just don't come much better. A damn smart fellow, too--ever hear him interviewed about the acting craft or directing or movie making? Impressive. Also, he took a leak into Ward Bond's whiskey flask which should count for something. Salud, El Duque.
