When I was a kid, I recall asking the old man "what was the prettiest" island he was ever on during his time in the Pacific during the Big War. He told me, "Funafuti" which I thought was bullshit or made up or mispronounced--he could mangle pretty much any word or place name. I guess he wasn't that full of shit--Funafuti lives. They're probably damn glad not to have a bunch of Marines running around there, though, pissing all over the place and such.
