Outside of the Box

Military men, especially high ranking officers, are often cast by the artistic community and pundits as muddle-headed nitwits and some of that dispersion is sadly sometimes earned. However, anyone who has read even a small amount of military history will come away impressed by the intelligence and creative thinking often displayed in the profession of arms. Such is the case with Air Force Major General Charles Dunlap who has penned a nice bit of contrarian thinking when it comes to how the U.S. military is currently being shaped and where he thinks that is wrongly headed: http://www.armedforcesjournal.com/2009/01/3827971. He'll probably never earn that third star after this bit of sand kicking at those holding the reigns, but guys like him are useful if for nothing else, making us think a little harder about what we're trying to do. It's a lengthy read, but very interesting.

Wow, man. You must be some kind of facist war mongerer or something. Dude, can't we try peace, man? I mean, you know, let the arabs alone, man. They're people, man, just like you and me. They didn't want to hurt nobody til we started dropping bombs on em, man.

Get rid of the military pigs, that's what I say. Jeezus man, just put the money where it'll do some good, like welfare or something, give it to the poor.

Besides, man, all this war shit is fucking up all the poppy fields. Dude's stash runnin' low and I'm gonna have to switch to east Texas bathtub crank pretty soon, man. That ain't right, dig?
